Innsbruck Sights and Day Trips

Opening hours and prices for the 13 main sights, Christmas market dates, the Innsbruck Card, ten day trips with train times and the hikes. From the operators, not hearsay.

Facts checked October 2026 against operator sources. Prices and times change, the booking page wins.

Innsbruck is the only Alpine capital where a cable car leaves the old town and reaches 2,300 metres in twenty minutes. This guide gives you the numbers before you go: 2026 opening hours and ticket prices for the main sights, the dates of all seven Christmas markets for 2026/27, what the Innsbruck Card costs and when it pays off, ten day trips by train, and the hikes that need no mountain experience. Figures come from the operators' own ticket pages and are dated.

Season by season

In Advent the Christmas markets set the rhythm: the old town and Marktplatz markets open on 13 November 2026, the Maria-Theresien-Strasse market runs to 6 January 2027. In winter twelve ski areas share one pass, from the Stubai Glacier to the Nordkette above the city. From May to October the lifts run on the Nordkette and Patscherkofel, and the Zirbenweg at 2,000 metres is the easiest high-altitude walk in Tyrol.

Tyrol in day trips

Hall in Tirol with its mint is eight minutes by train, the Schwaz silver mine twenty, the glass town of Rattenberg thirty, Kufstein fortress with the Heroes' Organ forty, Kitzbühel an hour. Seefeld, the Stubai valley, the Zillertal, Achensee and Alpbach complete the ten on the day trips page, each with train times and 2026 prices.

Practical

Getting there: bus F from the airport to the main station in 20 minutes, Munich in 1 h 54 by train, a single IVB ticket €3.30. The Innsbruck Card from €69 bundles 22 museums, both cable cars and public transport. Families get every child price on Innsbruck with children. For a licensed guide, the Welcome Tour and the guide association are on guided tours; the self-guided old town walk takes an hour.

Tickets without the queue

Nordkette, Swarovski Crystal Worlds, Ambras Castle and the Welcome Tour can be booked ahead. Online is two euros cheaper than the desk at Ambras and Swarovski.
