Thirteen sights with the 2026 hours and prices as published by the operators. Order follows geography: old town first, then the mountains, then the edge of town. German names are kept because that is what the signs, tickets and tram stops say.

Why each one is on the list

Golden Roof. The city's emblem and the start of every walk: the gilded oriel of 1500 with 2,657 fire-gilded copper shingles, built by Niklas Türing for Emperor Maximilian I so he could watch the tournaments in the square. The museum inside (€5.80, combined ticket with the City Tower €10.50) explains the court in half an hour; the view from the street costs nothing. City Tower. Because €4.50 and 133 steps buy the best view of the old town, 31 metres up a tower of 1450, open until 20:00 in summer and in Advent. St James's Cathedral. Because Cranach's Mariahilf painting over the altar, the Asam brothers' frescoes and Austria's largest carillon at noon are free, ten steps from the Golden Roof. Imperial Palace. Because the Giants' Hall with Maulbertsch's ceiling is the grandest room in Tyrol, and under-19s pay nothing. Court Church. Because 28 larger-than-life bronze figures, some designed by Dürer, guard the empty tomb of Maximilian, and Andreas Hofer, Tyrol's 1809 hero, lies beside them.

Nordkette. Because no other Alpine capital reaches 2,300 metres from its centre in twenty minutes, with Zaha Hadid's funicular stations on the way. Bergisel. Because the ski jump, its tower and the 1,000-square-metre panorama of the 1809 battle tell the city's sport and history in two hours, with lifts all the way. Ambras Castle. Because Archduke Ferdinand's Chamber of Art and Curiosities is the only one still in the place it was made. Alpine Zoo. Because it sits on the funicular and keeps only Alpine animals, bearded vulture and ibex rather than giraffe. Swarovski Crystal Worlds. Because it is the most visited day out from Innsbruck and fills half a day with the shuttle. Grassmayr. Because in 45 minutes you understand how a bell sounds, in a foundry on the same site since 1599. Audioversum. Because it is the reliable wet-day plan for families. Maria-Theresien-Strasse. Because everyone walks it from the station, and St Anne's Column with the Nordkette behind it is the photograph of the city.

Mondays and other traps

Audioversum is closed on Mondays, holidays included; Bergisel on Tuesdays from November to May; the Golden Roof museum on Mondays from October to April; Grassmayr on Sundays. The Court Church and the cathedral open at 12:30 on Sundays. Ambras Castle is closed for the whole of November and needs a booked time slot from 1 June 2026. The Nordkette has maintenance in late April. Arriving on a winter Monday still leaves the palace, the Court Church, the Nordkette, the zoo and Swarovski, which is enough.

Bergisel Schanze
Bergisel Schanze

Step-free and with a pushchair

Step-free with lifts: Bergisel (inclined lift and tower lift included in the ticket), the Imperial Palace, the Court Church via the Folk Art Museum, Swarovski Crystal Worlds, Audioversum, the funicular and the cable cars to Seegrube and Hafelekar. Not step-free: the City Tower, a spiral staircase with no lift. Hard with a pushchair: the Alpine Zoo on its steep slope and the path from Seegrube to the Path of Perspectives. The old town is cobbled but flat.

What are the main sights in Innsbruck?

The Golden Roof, the Imperial Palace, the Court Church with the Black Men bronzes, St James's Cathedral, the Nordkette cable cars to Hafelekar, the Bergisel ski jump, Ambras Castle, the Alpine Zoo and Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens.

How much is the Nordkette cable car in 2026?

Innsbruck to Hafelekar and back is €56 for adults and €33.60 for children until 1 November 2026. The Hungerburg funicular alone is €14. One return trip is included in the Innsbruck Card.

Which Innsbruck sights are free?

St James's Cathedral (donation), the Golden Roof from outside, Maria-Theresien-Strasse with St Anne's Column and the Triumphal Arch, and the old town itself. Under-19s pay nothing at the Imperial Palace and Ambras Castle.

Which sights are good in the rain?

The Imperial Palace, the Court Church with the Folk Art Museum, Audioversum, Swarovski Crystal Worlds and Ambras Castle; the funicular runs in any weather.

How many sights can I see in a day?

Four or five in the old town in the morning and one lift ride in the afternoon; more than that becomes ticking boxes.

Online or at the door

Online pays at Ambras Castle and Swarovski, where the price is two euros lower and the time slot is secured, and at the Nordkette at weekends, where the funicular queue otherwise costs an hour. The door is fine for the Imperial Palace, the Court Church, the zoo, Bergisel, the City Tower, Grassmayr and Audioversum. The Innsbruck Card is bought once and shown everywhere; it runs in hours from first use. Combined tickets are sold at the desks of the museums involved, not online.
